Overview
You are in Iceland and it is not just whales that can delight you here but the famous puffin sightings as well. On this quick small group excursion, you will hit the water running, which means you will board a special RIB boat that will move faster and closer to both whales and puffins than any larger vessel. In the hands of a competent crew, you will feel comfortable as you leave the harbor area and head for the islands. This is exactly where you will see the puffins in their natural surroundings. A slow glide through the area will give you a chance to capture them with your camera before you sit back and relax for the second phase of your excursion.
Part 2 is your search for whales and also dolphins which requires a further distance into the Icelandic waters. We do depend on nature to provide your sightings, but a list shows that killer whales are the most common catches out of Reykjavik in summer, along with the minke whale so you do have a great chance of getting your heartbeat up quickly. In 2016 our partners in Reykjavik had 94% success on their whale watching expeditions, a pretty good percentage!
Those whales along with pilot whales, humpbacks, blue whales, dolphins, a myriad of arctic birds such as the guillermot, the razorbill, and the oystercatcher may come your way on this express show of nature.
Your return to the harbor will include a swing down the shoreline of the city, as the view from the ocean is spectacular. You will have a stop at the amazing Harpa Concert Hall before docking at the harbor.
