Overview
Just outside of the town of Ketchikan, at the end of a long remote road, you will find yourself at an old historic lodge on the shores of the George Inlet waterway.
The property has had many lives in the past, in conjunction with all those businesses that thrive on water including mining and fishing.
Built and opened in 1914, it morphed several times and at the end of the 90s, the lodge became a historic landmark, best use of it yet.
Several buildings in other locations that come from the same period have been moved here to give you a real feel of the past and how things functioned back then.
You wont be alone but you will feel one with nature as you head towards the lodge.
En route your driver will relate stories of the history and life in this area and before long you will disembark in the midst of the wilderness of the Tongass National Forest.
You will find a series of steps but don't worry as the alternative is there for you, a van to transport you to the lodge easily.
You will arrive hungry we hope, as you enter the warmth and old elegance of a traditional north woods lodge.
What better way to begin an Alaskan crab feast than with the very beginning - a first hand experience on the water learning all about this special profession.
Your boat ride through the George Inlet provides an opportunity to not only see how its done, you'll also have the option to help pull up the crab pots!
Make sure to bring your camera, there is nothing more picturesque than experiencing the Alaskan wilderness from sea.
Back at the lodge, your crab feast awaits.
This is a meal to dig into.
Enjoy a steaming hot Dungeness Crab Feast with salad and delicious dessert.
As a matter of fact, have a contest at your table - who can eat the most crab!
The prize is pride in your personal consumption, if you will.
At the end of your feast, you will leave the wilderness behind and return to your cruise pier.
