Overview
Your true Alaskan bear encounter begins with a fully narrated motor coach tour from your ship, where you will learn the history of this special part of the world. Take in the scenery as you leave the port of Ketchikan behind.
Step aboard your thirty-six-passenger boat and meet your experienced Captain and crew, ready to set out for adventure toward Neets Bay Bear Observatory. This pristine wilderness area is limited to a small number of visitors each year and you will have the golden ticket. With a 1-hour boat ride from Clover Pass Lodge, you may see whales, eagles, sea lions, and so much more in the Tongass National Forest!
Southeast Alaska is home to thousands of bears, and they stake their claim near salmon spawning streams that feed into the Pacific Ocean. Upon arrival near the base of the stream, you will be debriefed on the habitat you are about to explore and the bears you will be observing.
Walking along a well-maintained forest trail, you can enjoy the lush forest and perhaps spot some smaller woodland creatures. Arriving at your viewing platform your guides will be on hand to answer questions and share knowledge about the surrounding forest and bears, as well as the salmon hatcheries and production in Southeast Alaska. Everything this region is well-known for!
There is around 1 hour of time at Neets Bay Bear Observatory area from dock to trail to the observation decks, in all areas there is a high likelihood of bear sightings!
Have your cameras ready to capture this experience as you co-exist with these incredible creatures within their natural habitat.
Whilst bear sightings are not guaranteed you may be fortunate to see them teaching their young to fish or relaxing after a big meal of fresh salmon, but nothing will compare to simply being near these beautiful creatures in the wild.
At the end of your memorable tour, you will enjoy a scenic 1-hour boat ride for your return transfer back to your cruise port.
