Russell Falls

Overview

Your guide welcomes you at your meeting location and you will board your transportation and travel north-west from Hobart. Traveling along the beautiful Derwent Valley, settle in and enjoy the views of native shore birds, quaint towns and city of Glenorchy and Claremont.

Pass through New Norfolk, the heart of the Derwent Valley and the hop fields of Bushy park.

Arriving at the Salmon Ponds - the oldest trout hatchery in the Southern Hemisphere, in operation since 1864. You will have a delightful complimentary cup of morning tea or coffee, followed by an opportunity to feed the trout and salmon. You can see the Museum of Trout Fishing and Tasmanian Angling Hall of Fame set amidst historic surrounds within the original English parklands and learn all about Tasmania's rich angling history.

Journey through dense rainforest fern glades and experience the stunning Russell Falls located in the Mt Field National Park. The Falls will be a tour highlight, as you take in its beauty and of course capture some memorable photos!

Take a walk alongside a forest stream and beneath the huge fronds of the forest canopy before enjoying time for lunch – at your own expense, at the Waterfalls Café.

After lunch you will return alongside the Derwent River crossing Bowen Bridge overlooking the Incat catamaran manufacturing firm. Depending on the season, you may purchase fresh raspberries from roadside stalls before your return to your meeting location. Then a short walk back to your cruise ship.
