Overview
Discover the heart and history of Bonaire on this captivating journey through Rincon Village, the island’s oldest settlement and the longest continually inhabited community in the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
Originally founded by the Spanish in the early 1500s, Rincon was strategically built in a sheltered valley to protect its residents from pirates and other seafaring threats. During the 17th century, enslaved people were brought to Bonaire to work in the salt pans and tend crops.
Many lived in Rincon, making the 7-hour trek south each week to work before returning home on weekends to gather supplies at the historic Mangazina di Rei (King’s Storehouse) and reunite with their families.
Your cultural exploration continues with a stop at the Kadushi Distillery, where you’ll sample Bonaire’s famous local cactus liqueur, a unique taste of the island’s natural bounty.
We’ll conclude the tour with an authentic dining experience at Posada, a beloved local restaurant where you can savor traditional island dishes and immerse yourself in Bonairean flavors.
