Overview
Discover the natural beauty, fascinating history, and vibrant local culture of southern Quintana Roo on an unforgettable journey to Bacalar and the spectacular Laguna de los Siete Colores — the Lagoon of Seven Colors.
Your adventure begins with a comfortable journey by land through the beautiful countryside of southern Mexico. Along the way, travel through the local community of Pedro Antonio de los Santos, where your guide will introduce you to the region’s culture, traditions, and local economy. Discover the importance of sustainable agriculture and learn about the cultivation of honey pineapple, one of the area’s best-known products.
Continue to the magical town of Bacalar, where history and natural beauty come together. Your first stop is the impressive San Felipe Fort, constructed between 1725 and 1733 to defend the town from pirate attacks during a period when the region was an important source of valuable dyewood. Your guide will bring the history of the fort and the turbulent past of Bacalar to life as you explore this fascinating landmark.
Next, it’s time to experience the breathtaking Laguna de los Siete Colores from the water. Board a comfortable pontoon at the marina and set out across the lagoon, famous for its remarkable shades of blue and crystal-clear waters.
During your boat journey, discover three of Bacalar’s fascinating natural cenotes — Cenote Negro, Cenote Esmeralda, and Cenote Cocalitos. Your guide will explain their importance to the lagoon’s delicate ecosystem, including the remarkable stromatolite formations found within Bacalar. These ancient structures are among the most fascinating natural features of the region.
You will also have the opportunity to enjoy the refreshing waters of the Canal de los Piratas (Pirate Channel). As you relax and take in the beautiful surroundings, your guide will share stories of the pirates, conflicts, and historic events that shaped Bacalar and its people.
Your experience continues with a taste of local Mexican cuisine. Visit a traditional restaurant and enjoy authentic Mexican tacos accompanied by a selection of local sauces, with both spicy and milder options available. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the flavours and culinary traditions of the region.
After an unforgettable day combining nature, history, culture, and local flavours, relax on the journey back to the port.
Return with a smile, a camera full of memories, and a deeper appreciation for the extraordinary beauty and heritage of Bacalar.
Experience the colours of the lagoon, uncover the stories of its past, and savour the flavours of southern Mexico on this unforgettable adventure.
