Overview
Discover the perfect harmony of ancient Mayan history and breathtaking natural beauty on this unforgettable excursion from Costa Maya. Explore the fascinating archaeological site of Chacchoben before travelling to Bacalar to experience the stunning Laguna de los Siete Colores — the Lagoon of Seven Colors.
From the port, we will travel in comfortable transportation to the ancient Mayan ruins of Chacchoben, approximately a 50-minute journey.
Upon arrival, our professional local guide will lead you on an approximately 60-minute walk through the surrounding jungle to the Acropolis, the most important area of the Chacchoben archaeological site. As you explore the ancient ceremonial centre, your guide will bring its history to life, sharing fascinating stories about the Mayan civilisation that flourished here from around 300 AD before the site was eventually abandoned between approximately 1200 and 1450.
Following your visit to Chacchoben, we will continue to Bacalar, a journey of approximately 30 minutes. Here, you will board a comfortable pontoon at the marina and set out to explore the spectacular Laguna de los Siete Colores.
During your approximately 90-minute boat journey, marvel at the lagoon’s incredible shades of blue and discover three of its beautiful open-air cenotes: Cenote Negro, Cenote Esmeralda, and Cenote Cocalitos. These unique natural formations form an important part of the lagoon’s ecosystem and add to the extraordinary scenery surrounding Bacalar.
You will also have the opportunity to take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Canal de los Piratas (Pirate Channel), a fascinating historic route once used by pirates travelling through the region.
To complete this experience, you will enjoy the culinary delights of the region in a traditional food restaurant, where you can try different spicy and non-spicy sauces that will accompany your Mexican tacos. This excursion offers you the opportunity to learn about the local flora and fauna, and to immerse yourself in the history and culture of the region. Our goal is to ensure that you return to the Costa Maya with a smile on your face and a heart full of unforgettable memories. We are waiting for you on this unique adventure!
