Overview
St. Maarten is a unique destination due to its split Dutch/French ownership, and has a beautiful landscape and wonderful sights. This tour allows you to soak up the island's stunning setting and impressive history.
You will begin your tour with an interesting journey from Philipsburg, the capital of Dutch St. Maarten, to Marigot, capital of French St. Maarten. You'll pass brightly painted Dutch-style buildings as you watch the island change cultures from the Dutch "Welkom" to the French "Bienvenue". You'll also pass the Border Monument, which marks the border between the French and Dutch sides of the island.
You will continue on to the hilltop at Orient Bay, which overlooks the beach. This is St. Martin's most popular beach, a beautiful place where you can swim and sunbathe for up to two hours, time allowing.
On arrival at Marigot, you'll have time to stop at some small boutiques and shops, including Colombian Emeralds and Little Switzerland, the colorful stands of the local market; alternatively, take a walk up to Fort Friederick where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the bay below.
From the French capital, the tour will continue over to the most popular area of the Dutch side - Maho Beach - for a stop at the Sunset Beach Bar.
At the end of the tour you will return to the port in plenty of time for your cruise ship's departure.
