Overview
Discover the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of Kona on this immersive, family-friendly tour that blends Hawaiian history, scenic landscapes, world-famous Kona coffee, and local wildlife — including the beloved Hawaiian green sea turtles!
Begin your journey at this National Historic Landmark, home to the ancient Honokohau Settlement. Established in 1978, the park preserves and interprets traditional native Hawaiian life and culture through its archaeological sites, cultural artifacts, and beautifully maintained grounds. Learn about centuries-old Hawaiian customs and the spiritual connection between the people and the land.
Next, take a short and relaxing stroll to a white sand beach, where you’ll find a fascinating reconstructed Hawaiian fish trap made from lava rock and a traditional thatched hut. This area offers great opportunities to view native Hawaiian birds and — if you’re lucky — spot Hawaiian green sea turtles (Honu) basking on the shore or swimming nearby.
Then, head up the volcanic slopes to visit a local coffee farm — where Kona’s famous coffee thrives in rich volcanic soil and ideal growing conditions. Learn how the coffee is cultivated, harvested by hand, and expertly roasted. Enjoy complimentary tastings of freshly brewed Kona coffee while taking in stunning views of the coastline.
Lastly, head south through the charming village of Captain Cook, stop at one of Kona’s hidden gems — the historic Painted Church, officially known as St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. This quaint, hillside chapel earns its nickname from the stunning hand-painted murals inside, which depict 3D biblical scenes created using simple house paint.
The order of sightseeing is subject to change. Some vendors may be closed on certain days of the week; alternate vendors will be used in such cases.
