Wines of Catalonia: Penedes Day Trip

You will make your own way to your centrally located meeting point to meet your guide, board your transport and set out for the hills of Alt Penedes - your destination for this wine excursion!

You'll enjoy exclusive visits to the vineyards and cellars of small wine and cava makers producing the most innovative and high-quality wines in the Penedes wine region.

This fun, informative, and educational tour provides a unique opportunity to sample a variety of fabulous wines and cavas (Spanish sparkling wines/champagne) and have a great meal in an amazing environment. Enjoy a visit to a small vineyard in Alt Penedes, about 40 minutes southwest of Barcelona. Alt Penedes is known for its small-batch, specialized wines, and this vineyard is no different.

After a short trip out to the fields for a brief history of the wine region, the grapes grown here, and the processes used, you will enter into the facilities for an explanation of the equipment used to elaborate the wine, the storage processes, and the bottling methods.

Then, it's time to discover the wine cellar--among the oak barrels and aging bottles of product--for very generous tastings of a white, a Cabernet-Merlot rose, a Cabernet reserve red, a natural brut reserve cava, and a Moscatel (sweet wine). All of this will be enjoyed over a meal of traditional Catalan food--select cured meats and cheeses, olives, bread with tomato and olive oil, and Spanish tortilla (sort of like a quiche).

After departing from the first winery, you will stop at a second small vineyard for a 4-product tasting of their fantastic wines and cavas. And, of course, all that you taste is available for purchase from the vineyards.
