Your shore excursion begins with a drive down the coastal road and through the spectacular Northern Irish countryside to the Giants Causeway. Known as Clochan an Afir in Irish, it is the result of an ancient volcanic eruption and is made up of 40,000 interlocked basalt columns. Legend has it that the columns are the remains of a causeway built by the giant, Finn McCool, in order to engage in a fight with the Scottish giant, Benandonner. The area was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 and is also a National Nature Reserve, now owned by the National Trust.
The visit to the Giants Causeway will be followed by a stop for photographs at Dunluce Castle - a medieval structure on the Antrim coast.
There will then be a short stop at the town of Ballycastle for about an hour of leisure time before the tour continues. You'll then drive back down the Belfast coast to the port in plenty of time for your cruise ships departure.
