Overview
Taormina is a very popular and interesting old town situated high up in the Sicilian hills. The journey from the port will take you on a scenic coastal drive.
You will stop at the panoramic Belvedere Square with its unique breathtaking view over the Messina coast line, Taormina bays, the Catania coast line and the volcano Etna. Then driving to the charming medieval village of Castelmola, you can explore the narrow picturesque streets with a wonderful view. Here you can also choose to visit the antique 13th century Arab castle, situated on the highest point in the area.
Now to Taormina, the views are absolutely breathtaking as your driver navigates the twist and turns before getting to the historical center. You will have your own free time to explore the town, stroll the quaint Sicilian streets full of vibrance with shops and restaurants in abundance. The downtown center represents a variety of historical points of interest including the Cathedral Square and a Greek-Roman Theatre. Your driver can also suggest a good local restaurant if you would like to stop for lunch.
After your free time, you will meet back up with the driver who will take you back to the port in plenty of time for your cruise ships departure.
