Departing from Catania, the journey quickly carries you from the city’s elegant baroque streets, built from distinctive black lava stone, to the dramatic slopes of Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The first part of the tour is dedicated to exploring Etna’s extraordinary volcanic landscape.
From Linguaglossa, you will travel along the evocative Mareneve Road, where the scenery transforms dramatically: Mediterranean vegetation gives way to dense forests, until reaching Piano Provenzana at 1,800 meters above sea level, where the stark black lava dominates the terrain.
Accompanied by experienced local guides, you will walk along scenic trails crossing ancient and recent lava flows and observe craters formed by lateral eruptions, including those from 2002.
Before descending, a stop at a traditional mountain chalet is the perfect opportunity to taste local specialties such as Etna honey and delicious almond or pistachio sweets.
The tour then continues to Taormina, the jewel of the Ionian coast.
This elegant hilltop town offers spectacular sea views, historic charm, and a lively atmosphere.
Enjoy free time to explore at your own pace, stroll along Corso Umberto, admire the Greek Theatre, or simply relax in a café overlooking the sea.
In the late afternoon, the group returns to Messina, bringing the day to a memorable close.
