Overview
We will begin our tour with a scenic drive to Cork, where you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Irish countryside while an experienced English-speaking guide provides you with a running commentary.
During the journey, you will pass through Great Island, where you can take in beautiful sights of the renowned River Lee, charming villages, and historical landmarks. We will then visit Fota Island, which boasts a wildlife park, golf course, and Fota House.
After leaving Fota Island, we will head towards Cork city, passing by the northwest part of the Port of Cork with its many inlets and waterways, as well as bird-friendly mudflats. On the way, you will see landmarks like the Fr. Mathew Statue on Patrick Street (the commercial heart of the city), St. Anne's Church (home of the world-famous Bells of Shandon), the Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Anne, Cork Opera House, and the red-brick Crawford Art Gallery, both in Emmet Place, and St. Mary's Church Pope's Quay with its beautiful colonnades.
We will then cross the Christy Ring Bridge on our way to Blarney Castle, where the world-renowned Blarney Stone is located. According to legend, kissing the stone bestows the gift of eloquence and flattery.
At Blarney Castle you will have approximately 90 minutes at your leisure. It is worth taking a walk around the beautiful gardens and grounds, and if you have time (and the queues are not too long) enter the castle to attempt to kiss the Blarney stone.
Additionally, there are several cafes, woollen mills, and souvenir shops at Blarney if you wish to do some shopping before returning to the coach for the journey back to the port of Cobh.
