This tour works well for both cruise and hotel guests. Your representative will be waiting for you at the cruise port or hotel; board your transportation and settle in as you leave the city behind!

This tour invites you to one of the Portuguese Wine demarcated regions. You will travel across the countryside, discovering an interesting perspective and contrast between the big city that we left behind, to enter the true rural Portugal.

Soon after, you will reach the little town of Mafra. Once you start to get closer to the town center an imposing structure will emerge the Convent and Royal Palace of Mafra. Built by orders of the Magnanimous King John V (18th century) the Convent, Basilica, and Palace express the magnitude of the vast Portuguese empire and the will of King John V to glorify God using only "the noblest materials".

This is considered the purest expression of the baroque style in Portugal. The perfection of shapes and the magnificent marble works are just some of the things that we will invite you to visit and live during a visit to the Basilica.

After this first "royal" experience of the day, you'll venture deeper into the countryside. Nestled in rolling green hills between the breathtakingly beautiful Atlantic coastline and the vibrant cultural life of Lisbon you will finally reach the winery: Quinta de Sant'Ana. Dating back to the 17th century this beautiful estate was given by King Carlos I to one of his mistresses, to whom he even decided to build a private theatre. Much later Baron von Fürstenberg acquired the property, whose daughter married an English man and it's this couple who live in the property today.

After an explanation about the property, you will be taken into the realm of wine production and the vineyards on a private visit. The wine tasting (for an additional cost) that will follow in the old wine cellar is the time to finally appreciate all of the tradition and time that has been put into the winemaking.

It will be the time to return to our starting point to cherish the memories of a well-spent half-day! You will be dropped off at either your cruise ship or hotel.
