When porting in Juneau, the absolute must thing to see is the famous Mendenhall Glacier and what better way to see this, is by choosing this up close and personal tour hiking to the Mendenhall!
If you are seeking an adventure and you enjoy the outside nature, this 6-7 mile hike is for you. Not only will you see this breath taking glacier, but along the way, we will take you through the Tongass National Forest, admiring the different trees and shrubs, such as the majestic Sitka Spruce and of course the Hemlock trees.
On arrival your guide welcomes you and you will gear up and complete your orientation. From there you will be ready to set off via the West Glacier Trail!
Your guide on hand will take you through the forest, pointing out the different trees, wildlife, beaver ponds and the general lush wilderness along the way. Don't worry, you are in safe hands with our experienced guide!
Now get ready...... as you emerge from the forest, this is the moment you will have the most magnificent sight of the Mendenhall Glacier, with its monumental ice river. Stop and take in this incredible vista as we stand and admire the surrounding mountains and the mighty Nugget Falls. The highlight of the hike and memories which will stay with you forever and the glacier panoramic views. The return hike is mainly downhill back to the trailhead.
The roundtrip hike is approximately 6-7 miles, with inclines, slippery terrain and uneven rocky ground, and around 800ft elevation gain, it is highly recommended to wear suitable hiking boots.
You may not want to leave the beautiful glacier, however you will de-gear at the end of your tour and board your transport for your return drive to the cruise port.

Special Instructions

Wear warm layers and suitable and sturdy hiking boots, and bring rain gear (although some rain gear is provided).

Souvenir water bottle is included however it is advised to bring your own reusable water bottle.

This hike is set as strenuous, this is not suitable for guests with walking difficulties, back problems, or pregnant women.

Guests must be able to hike for at least 4 hours/7 miles round trip on steep, rocky, slippery, and uneven terrain carrying a 10 lb backpack.
