Overview
Do you have a full day to explore Juneau? Are you looking for one of the best Brown Bear viewing tours? Then this is the tour for you, by foot and by plane, we have it all covered!
The transfer will take you to Juneau's float plane base, ready to take in the tour briefing from one of the experienced wilderness guides, who will assist you with any questions you may have.
After the safety briefing you will embark on your float plane, ready to commence your flight to Pack Creek. This 25 minute plane journey is simply breath taking, capturing amazing vistas from above of this incredible destination. After landing, the dedicated rangers from pack Creek will guide you along the paths at Pack Creek following in the footsteps of the bears, making sure your safety is of utmost importance, but also allowing the best viewing locations along these forest trails.
The Rangers will lead you to the banks of Pack Creek, where there is an opportunity of watching the brown bears in their natural habitat (viewing of the brown bears is not always guaranteed).
The bears are most active during the mating season, which is late May to June, annual salmon runs are late July to August.
Admiralty Island which is known as the 'Fortress of the Bears' lives up to its title with an impressive brown bear population of approximately 1,800 brown bears. This island boasts one of the highest bear densities in the world, with roughly one brown bear per square mile. It’s home to about 10% of Alaska’s entire brown bear population, making it one of the most densely populated brown bear areas on the planet.
You may not want to leave the wilderness however your float plane is waiting to take you back to base, and from there your transport to the cruise port.
