Starting from the port of Toba, you will be greeted by your Venture Ashore representative before setting off on a journey that showcases some of Japan’s most treasured highlights.
Your first stop is Ise Jingu Naiku, the Inner Shrine, regarded as Japan’s most sacred Shinto site. Dedicated to the Sun Goddess Amaterasu, this remarkable shrine is nestled deep within a forest of ancient cypress trees, offering a serene and spiritual atmosphere.
From there, you’ll step back in time with a stroll through Okage Yokocho, a lively district that recreates the charm of the Edo period. Here you can wander through bustling lanes filled with traditional shops, sample local street food, and soak up the authentic historic ambiance.
Next, you’ll experience a truly unique tradition with a seafood lunch at an Ama Hut. Prepared by female free-divers known as ama, the meal features freshly caught shellfish and other delicacies, often accompanied by captivating stories of this centuries-old practice.
Your adventure continues at Mikimoto Pearl Island, the birthplace of cultured pearls. Learn about the pioneering work of Kokichi Mikimoto, watch skilled ama divers demonstrate their craft, and admire dazzling collections of pearl jewelry that showcase the artistry and heritage of this extraordinary island.
