As you travel through the stunning fjord region, you’ll follow the shimmering shores of glacier-fed lakes glowing in brilliant turquoise hues, their mirror-like surfaces reflecting towering mountains and endless skies.
The journey takes you alongside the breathtaking Nordfjord, guiding you deep into a landscape where waterfalls cascade down steep mountainsides, traditional farms dot the hills, and lush green meadows stretch peacefully toward the water’s edge. The dramatic scenery feels almost untouched, offering a true sense of Norway’s wild and serene beauty.
You will visit the region’s two magnificent lakes, beginning with a stop at the enchanting Loen Lake. Here, you’ll pause to breathe in the majestic scenery and admire the crystal-clear waters framed by steep peaks and charming rural surroundings. The stillness and grandeur of the lake create a perfect moment to connect with nature and capture unforgettable photographs.
Continuing onward, the excursion brings you to the serene Olden Lake, where another carefully chosen stop awaits. From this vantage point, you’ll enjoy remarkable views toward the striking Mjelkevollbreen, one of the many glacier arms flowing from the mighty Jostedalsbreen. This vast ice cap, the largest in continental Europe, has shaped the surrounding valleys and lakes over thousands of years, leaving behind the dramatic scenery you see today.
Your experience unfolds in the charming village of Olden, located at the inner end of Nordfjord. A typical mid-sized West Norwegian fjord village, Olden has welcomed visitors since the 19th century, when British lords and ladies first journeyed here to witness the awe-inspiring glaciers. Today, around 1,100 residents call this picturesque place home, living among dramatic mountains, fertile valleys, and the calm blue waters of the fjord.
PORT OF ALESUND
Trollstigen - Land of Trolls Tour
Tour Duration: 6 hours
Board your bus and get comfortable for the drive from Ålesund through charming Norwegian villages to the Land of Trolls. The first stop will be at Kokarsteinen, placed just above the fiord, to enjoy your first photo opportunity. Next, you will pass by Sjoholt village, known for the furniture and wood industry, and Valldal, famous for tasty strawberries!
The next stop will be Gubrandsjuvet. It is a 5 meters narrow and 20 – 25 meters high ravine where you can actually walk to the other side using the bridge. After that, the bus will drive you to the Trollstigen to enjoy the majestic view of the natural landscape and fantastic mountain road with all the spectacular hairpin turns. After the ascent up to the Trollstigen Plateau, enjoy a longer stop to enjoy the breathtaking views and make a stop to buy food and drinks available in shop or cafeteria.
Ready to continue on, driving down the road, there is an extra photo stop at Stigefossen – the powerful waterfall with a total height of 240 meters. The surrounding scenery on this tour will take your breath away and create wonderful memories. Your last visit will be at Trollveggen (Troll Wall), Europe’s tallest vertical rock face. From here, your bus will drive you via Åndalsnes back to Ålesund.
