Overview
Your English speaking guide will meet you at your cruise port, where you will board your private transportation.
The Port of Alicante has been reinventing itself since the industrial decline the city suffered in the 1980s as much of the commercial traffic was lost to Valencia's harbor.
Its beaches, monuments and fantastic museums all form part of this city's great appeal not to mention its location on the Mediterranean Sea.
A panoramic drive will introduce you to this dynamic city and its history. A highlight is the view from Saint Barbara's Castle and the history of the Co-Cathedral. The Castle of Santa Barbara is perched on top of Mount Benacantil, at a height of almost 550 feet, and stands one of Spain's largest medieval fortresses providing great views of Alicante's perfect bay.
The San Nicolas Co-Cathedral construction began on the San Nicolas Co-Cathedral in the year 1600, replacing a building that had stood there previously. It is built in the Herrerian renaissance style and is located in the heart of the city. The ride from one to the other is lovely and very representative of the tightening of proximity between people in the old historic city centers.
You will continue on the drive along the Esplanade - also known as the â Paseo de la Explanada. This is a maritime promenade that runs parallel to the port, from the Puerta del Mar to Canaleja's Park. It is lovely and one of the most popular areas in Alicante.
Your guide will take you through the picturesque streets in Santa Cruz quarter on foot while explaining monuments such as the City Hall, the Co-Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, and the oldest church in the city, Saint Mary's Church. It is easy to witness the lifestyle here as relaxed and understand the draw for locals and from other areas in Europe to this way of living.
As you make your way through the city, you will see Casa Carbonell or a Carbonell House standing at Number 1 on the Explanada de Espana esplanade, which is one of the most striking buildings in Alicante. The most incredible piece of artwork in Alicante is the ceramic design of the esplanade, which consists of over 6 million tiles but is so worth the time and effort as it is memorable and welcoming to all.
At the end of your sightseeing tour, you will return to the cruise port.
