Your half day tour tour will begin with a drive to the port of Souda and visit the monastery of Chrissopigi.
The Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Chrissopigi Monastery is located in Hania, at a distance of 3 km. It is dedicated to the Virgin Zoodochos Pigi, where celebrations on Easter Friday, thousands flock for the miraculous image of the Virgin. Founded in the late 16th century, over the centuries the monastery experienced periods of bloom and decline. Suffered many invasions and severe damage from the Turkish and German conquerors of Crete.
From here you will enjoy a short stop for photos at the Venizelos Monument, which has a panoramic view over Chania Bay. Reaching the town, you will walk around the old quarters and harbor of Chania. This part of town was surrounded by the old Venetian fortifications of which only the eastern and western parts have survived.
Chania's old town is Crete's most beautiful urban district, especially the crumbling harbor with its 15th-century lighthouse. You will make your way through colorful neighborhoods, learning about the traditional lifestyle in this town.
Your walking tour will allow you to visit the most important sites (the Archaeological Museum, the Cathedral, the leather lane, and the Market Hall) but also plenty of exciting hidden spots off the beaten track, areas that reflect the electric mix of influences that have Chania its very unique atmosphere.
After your guided walk you will have time to shop at leisure, or take in some lunch before returning back to the cruise ship.
