Overview
Your guide meets you at your cruise port (or hotel), at a time that fits your cruise schedule ready for your departure from Akureyri Port. Your comfortable mini bus drive will take you on a journey through natures extreme contrasts.
You will drive East from Akureyri, cross Eyjafjörður fjord and enjoy the beautiful view of the town, the ocean, and the mountains surrounding the fjord.
After only a half-hour drive, you will arrive at the picturesque Goðafoss Waterfall. Goðafoss plays an important role in Icelandic history, particularly in connection with the introduction of Christianity. From there you continue on an amazing journey through areas of extreme contrasts, bird life, flora, lava fields, geothermal activity, geology, and saga.
Stopping at the Lake Mývatn, considered to be the most beautiful place in Iceland. The area is where the picturesque Skútustaðagígar Psuedo Craters, formed from explosions when the flowing hot lava met with the ice-cold water from the lake. It has been used as a filming location for major Hollywood films and TV shows, such as Game of Thrones, Fast and Furious, and Star Wars. You can have your own movie moment as you take in the great panoramic views and capture memorable photos.
Afterwards, you arrive at Dimmuborgir Lava Fields, full of lava pillars and formations that are rich in mythical sagas and ghoulish trails. Next, drive to the warm underground river in Grjótagjá Rift, where the rift between the Eurasian & American Continents is very visible.
Your final stop is by Lake Mývatn is at Námafjall and the geothermal area of Hverir Mud Pools, with steaming fumaroles, boiling mud pools, and sulfur pits. A unique and fun part of the tour!
Various photo stops are added to your tour depending on the weather. Your tour ends with a return drive to your cruise port in Akureyri, in time for your ship’s departure.
