Overview
Your guide welcomes you at your cruise port, ready to begin your tour with a drive to Rabat, the capital city of Morocco.
The city was built by orthodox Muslim Arabs from Spain who decided to settle near the Chellah necropolis. The origins of the necropolis stretch back to the Phoenician and Roman era.
You will start your city tour at Dar El Makhzen (Royal Palace) where you will be able to see the palace from outside. This palace dates back to 1864 and presently houses over 2000 people: inside are the prime minister's offices, the imperial college, the Ahl Fas Mosque, a small race track, and the barracks of the Black Guard.
Opposite the majestic palace you will see the Mohamed V University, Morocco’s largest university. From here you will then walk past the Hassan Tower and visit the Mohamed V Mausoleum. 400 Moroccan craftsmen were employed to build this mausoleum. The entrance leads into the burial chamber, whose walls are decorated with Zellige (Moroccan tiles) and stucco and has a cupola covered in gold leaf.
You will then go to the Kasbah of the Oudayas square, where you will see the Oudaya gate on the northern side. Next is the Rue des Consuls, the architecturally most interesting street in the Medina.
Finally you will visit Souika Street, a real highlight and known as the busiest shopping street in the Medina of Rabat. Your tour ends with a transfer back to Casablanca port.
