THIS IS A PRIVATE TOUR
Your shore excursion begins with a drive down the coastal road and through the spectacular Northern Irish countryside to the Giants Causeway. Known as Clochan an Afir in Irish, it is the result of an ancient volcanic eruption and is made up of 40,000 interlocked basalt columns. Legend has it that the columns are the remains of a causeway built by the giant, Finn McCool, in order to engage in a fight with the Scottish giant, Benandonner. The area was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 and is also a National Nature Reserve, now owned by the National Trust.
The visit to the Giants Causeway will be followed by a stop for photographs at Dunluce Castle - a medieval structure on the Antrim coast.
There will then be a short stop at the town of Ballycastle for about an hour of leisure time before the tour continues. Youll then drive back down the Belfast coast to the port in plenty of time for your cruise ships departure.
Tour Itinerary:
- We will depart from Belfast port and travel inland straight to the Giants Causeway where you will spend 1 hour 15 minutes at the stones/visitor centre.
- We will then make a photo stop at Dunluce Castle before making the short journey to Portaneevy Viewpoint where you can see Carrick a Rede rope bridge, Rathlin Island and even some of the Scottish islands.
- Next we will travel along the Coast road - one of the most scenic drives in the world.
- Along the way, we will stop for a short lunch break in Ballycastle where we can spend 1 hour in this quaint little town.
- After this stop, we will make our way back to Belfast along the Coastal route for your Belfast City Tour before returning to Belfast Port in plenty of time for your cruise ships departure.
