Overview

This guided full day tour works well for both cruise and hotel guests. Start your tour with a pick up at either your cruise port or hotel, where you will board your private transportation, settle in as you leave the city behind! Alongside your guide, get ready to discover how the the Jewish communities in Lisbons past were essential to life in the city.

Jewish people were the advisors of Kings and Queens, doctors, and even some of the explorers, geographers, and mathematicians who transformed Portugal into the wealthiest nation in the world in the 16th century.

Your tour will start with a general introduction to the Jewish presence of the city, followed by a nice walk in the city center passing by the site of the 1506 Jewish Massacre near the Church of São Domingos.

From here, your tour will proceed to the Castle of Saint George (with the best panoramic view of the city) and it will be from here that you will to walk down one of the most well-preserved Jewish Quarters in Portugal in Alfama. At the end of your tour, you will board your transportation to your cruise port or hotel.

If you wish to visit the Shaare Tikva Synagogue (only possible on Tuesdays and Thursdays), please consider a donation of 10 EUR per guest.
Each guest will needs to supply their passport number and name as it appears on their passport in advance of the tour.
Dress for the weather in cool and comfortable clothes and suitable footwear.
Bring your sunglasses, sunscreen, sunhat and water bottle.
This tour cannot accommodate wheelchairs and motorized scooters. Many monuments are not accessible by wheelchairs and don't have signage for visually impaired people. Most sidewalks are made of uneven cobblestones.
