Overview

You will be met at the port of Naples ready to commence this full day of historical touring.

This in depth full day tour will feature all of the highlights of the Roman Excavations relating back to 79 AD and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The ruined cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum are the two most famous places effected by the eruption. Not only will you visit both sites, you will also get to see the site of Stabia and Boscoreale. Learn all about these buried cities and towns, learn about what the day of an Ancient Roman was like two thousand years ago.

You will start your day with a journey over to the buried cities of Herculaneum and Pompeii to discover what the roads, stores, homes and public spaces looked like in these ancient cities. Your guide will tell you how an Ancient Roman would have lived their lives over 2000 years ago.

Learn all about the commercial center of Pompeii, once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, and the residential center of Herculaneum, located in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius which was buried and effected by the ash that erupted from Mount Vesuvius on the fateful summers day back in 79 AD. Most people in the area continued with their daily lives, unaware of the imminent danger and as a result they themselves were buried under ash and pumice.

Enjoy some free time (around 45 minutes) after your tour in Pompeii to grab a bite to eat (not included). After your visit here, we will then head off the beaten track to the tons of Stabia and Boscoreale.

First becoming famous for the magnificent Roman villas, the maritime Villa of Stabia will be the first stop for us to explore with the luxurious dwellings facing the bay. Most of the beautiful objects and frescoes from the villas can now be found in the Archaeological Museum of Naples.

Move over to the Regina at Boscoreale, only discovered in 1977, this rustic villa was buried 8m below ground level and has been preserved in its complete state. Take a look at a local farm and what the farming world used to be like.

Your final stop will be Villa Regina and the small museum displaying many amazing remains of Ancient food and the tools the Romans used to farm and work the land with.

As your day draws to a close you will then head back to the cruise port in plenty of time to meet your ship.

On the 1st of May, Labor day, Pompeii is closed. Guests will have an extended tour of Naples and see Castle of the egg.
We have set the start time so as to ensure you disembark your cruise ship and arrive at the meeting point as quickly as possible for this full day tour.
