Next, travel deeper into the scenic Douro Valley, where rolling hills lined with vineyards stretch along the meandering Douro River. Arrive in the charming riverside town of Régua, considered the capital of the Douro wine region. Here, you'll have free time to explore at your own pace—browse local shops, enjoy the tranquil riverside atmosphere, or have lunch at one of the traditional restaurants.
The journey continues to Mateus, home of the famous Solar de Mateus, an 18th-century baroque manor house featured on the label of the iconic Mateus rosé wine. While the manor itself is private, you’ll tour the exquisite formal gardens, known for their geometric hedges, ornamental ponds, and elegant walkways.
Your final stop is the historic town of Lamego, nestled in the hills of the Douro region. Here, visit the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, one of Portugal’s most important pilgrimage sites. Climb (or admire) the grand baroque staircase, beautifully adorned with tiled panels, fountains, and statues, leading to the hilltop church that offers sweeping views of the town and valley.
