This is Sicily as you imagine it. Lush rolling landscapes, delicious sweets, and distinctive culture.
You'll begin this full-day tour in Palermo, where your guide will pick you up from the port area and drive you to Western Sicily. Sometimes called Sicily's "Wild West," this is a region that has been relatively untouched by the tourist craze that much of the rest of the island has experienced.
Your first stop is Erice, a medieval town that was settled by the Elymians. To help, the pronunciation is U ree che. Erice was a particularly important place in the ancient world, as it was associated with the goddess of love, Venus. Today, it is still one of the most romantic towns imaginable. You'll weave through its narrow streets and visit some of its famous homemade pastry shops. Make sure to try the local specialty, marzipan candies, but don't miss out on other delicacies including almost and pistachio pastries. Since Erice was conquered by a variety of groups it is incredibly interesting to see the impact each one had on the construction of the city.
You'll leave Erice and head towards an olive oil factory for a light lunch. This is an olive oil lover's dream come true. Sicily is the world capital for olive oil production, and you'll have a chance to lunch right where the island's precious fruit are transformed into extra virgin olive oil. Get ready for the freshest olive oil you'll ever have tasted.
After your delicious lunch, you will board your transportation and return to your cruise port or hotel.
