Overview
From the Port it is a short but scenic drive to the hilltop monastery of Filerimos, built by the Byzantines in the 5th century AD on the ruins of Ancient Ialyssos. In front of the steps leading up to the monastery are the remains of a Greek Temple, the cross-shaped baptistery of the first Christian Basilica and the tiny underground Chapel of St. George with faded 15th century wall paintings.
Continuing, we drive to Monte Smith once the Acropolis of Ancient Rhodes. From the tumbled massive pillars of the temple of Athena, the stadium of Diagoras and the port. We then driver to Mandraki harbor, viewing the three windmills near St. Nicholas Fort, the new market and the public administration buildings all of which reflect the history of Rhodes Town. We enter the fortified city through the Amboise Gate and walk to the Grand Master Palace. You will continue down the Street of the knights, its pathed paved with colorful marble and superb mosaics, past medieval towers and emblazoned fascades.
You will be returned back to the port in plenty of time for your cruise ships departure.
