Overview
The tour will commence with a scenic drive to the hilltop landmark of Trsat Castle, during the drive take in the panoramic views of glittering Kvarner Bay and the charming town of Rijeka.
Once arrived at the castle your guide will lead you through this 13th century fortress whilst giving you information about the history of this magnificent place. Trsat castle was restored in 1824 by Count Laval Nugent, who renovated it in a traditional neoclassical Biedermeier architectural design.
There will be a little free time after the guided tour of the castle for you to explore or to simply take in the magnificent views before meeting up with your guide to continue the tour.
Embark the transportation to continue on to Rijeka, an important trade and cultural centre. Once we have arrived in Riejka we will continue with a guided walking tour, exploring on foot and taking in the European architecture and the delightful and quaint Korso - Rijekas main pedestrian street lined with period buildings and elegant fountains.
The guide will point out the old gates which were erected in Roman times, the citys clock tower and an array of ornate churches. Some historical highlights of the tour include the baroque Rijeka Cathedral, constructed on a round floor plan and the neo-gothic Capuchin Church of our Lady of Lourdes, once noted for its ornate facade. Take a look at the 538 step stone stairway which is a pilgrimage path that leads to the Church of our Lady of Trsat, along with the 19th century City Hall.
At the end of the walking tour, you will be allowed a little free time before your guide will take you back to your cruise ship in plenty of time for your cruise ships departure. For customers who wish to spend a little longer in the town can return back independently.
