Overview

You will be met at the port of Rotterdam by your driver who will then guide you to your transportation ready to start your tour.

The tour will commence to the medieval fortified town of Woudrichem, with its quaint cobbled streets, beautiful canals and a medieval church. Here we will take a walking tour learning all about the history of the area. There are many photo opportunities, this town, also became famous for a TV drama Dokter Tinus which was filmed here.

After Woudrichem, our tour will continue to one of the highlights, the Loevestein Castle. Which is a 14th century fortress, then later a prison. Here we can explore the thick stone walls, whilst hearing stories about the great prison breakout by Hugo de Groot. Your guide will be giving you a lot of history about this majestic building during the exploration of the castle.

From the castle we move on to Gorkum, after soaking in the history of Loevestein, we continue to Gorinchem, a hidden gem among Dutch fortified towns. Here, a delicious lunch awaits you at a local restaurant housed in a historic building in the heart of the city. Enjoy exquisite local cuisine while surrounded by centuries of history.

Our final stop takes us to Schiedam, home to the world’s tallest traditional windmills. We visit Windmill De Walvisch, an impressive distillery windmill that played a crucial role in Schiedam’s jenever (Dutch gin) production. Step inside to learn about the craft of milling and distilling, and admire the breath taking views over this historic gin capital.

At the end of the tour, you will be taken back to the port of Rotterdam in plenty of time for your cruise ships departure.
