Overview

The tour begins at the port where you will meet the driver and then make your way by mini coach over to Mount Vesuvius. This is the only active volcano situated in mainland Europe. The coach will take you within 1000 meters of the top of the volcano. From here, it is recommended to walk to the very top and admire the spectacular views across the bay.

You will see the slopes, once covered by vineyards and woodlands that provide a spectacular backdrop for the bustling town below. This tour provides such a fabulous insight into ancient Roman history and archaeology, and combines two of the most important Roman cities in the Bay of Naples that were buried by Vesuvius in the year 79 AD.

You will also have the opportunity to see both aspects of roman civilization of 2000 years ago, the commercial centre of Pompeii and also the residential centre of Herculaneum. On a fateful summers day in 79 A.D., Mt. Vesuvius erupted, spewing volcanic ash over the prosperous city of Pompeii. Unaware of the imminent danger, most people continued on with their daily lives and as a result the entire town and around 20,000 of its inhabitants were buried under tons of ash and pumice.

Almost 2,000 years later, you have the opportunity to explore the site of this famous disaster and see the houses, streets and public buildings miraculously preserved by the volcanic ash. You will be taken to fascinating places such as the Forum, Thermal Baths, Lupanare brothel and Vettis House with its beautiful frescoes.

*You will have the option to choose whether to visit Pompeii or Herculaneum. After the Archaeological site visit, we will then drive to Mt. Vesuvius.

Herculaneum is closed on a Wednesday.

Special Instructions

Your preferred choice of Pompeii or Herculaneum site to visit, has to be made while making your reservation (or no later than 7 days prior to your tour).
Entrance fees to Pompeii are not included and cost approximately 15 Euros per person (you will be able to buy these at the entrance to Pompeii). Free admission for EU and Outside EU citizen under the age of 18 (ID or Passport needed as a proof).
Backpacks are not allowed in Pompeii site. Cloakrooms are available but the tour starts and ends at two different places, therefore it is not practical to store your belongings.
It is recommended to take sun cream and a sun hat, as at times on this excursion it can get unseasonably hot.
It is recommended to drink plenty of water.
Please wear comfortable footwear for this excursion as there is some walking on uneven ground, inclines and steps. Sandals are not suitable to the hike on Mt Vesuvius.
Foldable wheelchairs can be stored. Pompeii site is not suitable for wheelchairs however, there are some cafes outside where you can sit and wait. Some parts of Herculaneum are wheelchair accessible
